Each year Briez partners with a charity and donates a part of her profits. This year (2019) I’ve decided on Foundation Uschersyndrom (Schtichting Uschersyndroom). 10 years ago, ambassador of this foundation Joyce de Ruiter visited Briez for a relaxing beauty-treatment. The other day I coincidentally listened to a podcast of Thijs van Lindhoudt featuring an interview with Joyce. Coincidentally… or perhaps there is no such thing as a coincidence! She inspired me back then and continues to do so. I’m happy to be able to show her my appreciation by supporting this wonderful cause.
Joyce is a true inspiration to all. She shows us that a strong mindset helps in ‘having a choice’ on how to deal with setbacks in life. She suffers from the Usher Syndrome, a disease that affects hearing and sight overtime to the point where one looses both completely. It’s hard to imagine the impact this disease has on a person’s life. There is currently no treatment available to delay or halt the loss of these senses, but there is hope. Foundation Usher Syndrome uses its funds to support scientific research into treatment options. A cause worth supporting!
Although Joyce’s path has been difficult, she has reached a point of acceptance and her story inspires people on how to deal with changes and setbacks. With her own company, she is a business speaker and ambassador of Stichting Ushersyndroom. In her own words ‘Even though this syndrome has made things difficult, it has also brought me beautiful things’. A sentence that makes one think.
With my coaching (Briez Coaching), I’m currently helping women to facilitate changes in their lives. I’d like to change their thinking from ‘I can’t do this’ to ‘of course I can do this and I’m going to!’. Joyce’s mission seems to be a perfect fit. I’m honored to re-connect with her in this way and to be able to use her as an example to inspire others.
